Artist Statement
My family has an inherited legacy of beekeeping. “The Trees Are Now Silent” is about the recent consequences of the varroa mite infestation which led to our hives being euthanised. The image is a tribute and lament, an acknowledgement of the vital role of bees in our ecosystem and a reminder of nature’s fragility.
